ROMAGEM - Roma Girls' Empowerment through Mentorship

Roma-Gem logo

The main objective of the ROMA-GEM project is to reduce the structural inequalities faced by young Roma girls living in Europe in the fields of education, employment, and entrepreneurship, and to ensure their active, confident, and sustainable participation in social and economic life.

The project aims not only to enhance the individual skills of Roma girls, but also to empower them as active agents capable of creating change within their own communities and in society at large.

ROMA-GEM adopts a needs-based and data-driven approach. The real needs of Roma communities are identified through Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR), conducted with the direct involvement of the target group. In this way, Roma girls are not passive recipients of externally designed policies, but active partners in the solution process.

Another core objective of the project is to institutionalize mentoring mechanisms and ensure their sustainability. Trust-based relationships between mentors and young Roma girls help build long-term social networks and solidarity.

The project also offers a holistic model addressing gender equality, social inclusion, and environmental sustainability, supporting economic independence while encouraging socially and environmentally responsible initiatives across Europe.
